While we hate to remind you that school starts the last week of August in Wellesley, the new school year also will be cause for celebration for many as the town bids farewell to the current Wellesley High School and welcomes the new one.
A spiffy new website dubbed Wellesley Celebrates Education will serve as headquarters for information on a slew of events designed to celebrate the town’s well-earned reputation for educational excellence.
The first set of major events — the Turn Out the Lights activities — will be clustered around Thanksgiving and the annual Wellesley-Needham football game. These will include visits from accomplished alums, who will speak with students and the community, as well as a good dose of Glory Days celebrations feting Wellesley High’s best athletes, artists and more. Dances, memorabilia collections and more are on the agenda.
Turn On the Lights celebrations will take place on Wellesley’s Wonderful Weekend in the spring, a few months after students are expected to move into the new school.
Wellesley Celebrates Education also has info on other educational events, including Wellesley Reads Together and the annual spelling bee.
