The new City Sports store at 475 Washington St. in Wellesley opened its doors over the weekend, calling attention to itself with blue and white balloons and a makeshift sign covering up the old St. Moritz sign (a new sign should be on the way shortly). A more formal grand opening, complete with prizes and treats, is planned for Oct.1 from 10am-2pm.
The 10,000 sq. ft-plus store has an airy layout, and for now, that new-store-smell. City Sports is heavily into running, tennis and yoga gear, plus highlights an assortment of watches and electronic gear in an interactive setting near the front of the store. A customer wielding his own tennis racket entered the store right before me and immediately got down to business with a store associate. I ventured over to the athletic socks area, where there was a rich assortment.
One thing worth noting: City Sports really doesn’t target kids (not that they aren’t welcome to visit). So you might find a few things here and there for children, but this is really more of a store catering to grown-up jocks.
AMAZING sales help !! Lovely young lady helping me in the womans dept. then off to the shoe dept. where I received very knowledgeable running sneaker help and sizing. But wait…2 days later after wearing my new sneakers I thought I purchased the wrong size. I thought a size 9 was mistakingly put in the size 8 box. The box said 8 but I thought I read 9 in the tongue of the sneaker. The manager of the shoe dept. gave me no problems exchanging the shoe even though I had worn them. He even credited me for the inconvenience. As I was about to drive away he ran out to stop and tell me that I had taken the original shoe with me, not the new size. To my embarrassment the shoe I had originally purchased was a size 8. Instead of making me feel really stupid he sent me on my way. I will definateley be shopping at Wellesley City Sports often. Great selection, neat, and great sales and managerial staff!!! This store will do great in Wellesley!!
