UPDATE: Katie Boyd’s reality show will be called Wicked Fit and debuts Oct. 23
Camera crews have started popping up in Wellesley to shoot a new Style Network reality TV series at least tentatively called Miss Fit based on the reality of Katie Elizabeth Boyd and her women’s fitness business on Rte. 9 in Wellesley. (A reader alerted us last night that cameras were rolling at The Cottage in Linden Square, filming a woman at the bar, and asked us if we know what might know what was up.).
We introduced you to the twenty-something Boyd and her Miss Fit business in March of 2010 (“Paint the town pink: Wellesley welcomes The Miss Fit Club”). Hers is a very pink fitness club with a twist in that she preps beauty pageant contestants alongside other women looking to get fit.
It sounds like Boyd — a basketball fan who once called herself the “Red Auerbach of the swimsuit competition” — will be getting way more exposure now as the cameras capture her efforts in and out of the gym, including on the dating scene.
This past April the Style Network announced that Miss Fit would be among a slate of possible new shows that also included “Birth Moms” and “Single with 7.” The original write-up for Boyd’s show read in part:
“Beneath the beauty queen exterior beats the heart of a drill sergeant as Katie pushes her clients – both pageant hopefuls and suburban moms – through their paces. With equal parts tough love and laughter, Katie is a force to be reckoned with as she helps her clients reach their fitness goals while learning a lot about life and themselves along the way.”
A big part of Boyd’s story is her familiarity with the pressures pageant life can put on women’s self-esteem and her efforts to help contestants compete in a healthy way.
Boyd has been documenting her latest adventure in part via Twitter, where she warned the Style Nework early on: “get ready to swear Swarovski and grunt glitter!!!” If you have no idea what that means, guess you better tune into the Style Network this fall to find out..
(In other reality TV news, Babson College is celebrating the return to campus of Daymond John, who hosts the Shark Tank reality show on ABC. John, who has been successful in the worlds of fashion and branding, is in Wellesley as an entrepreneur in residence and will take part in a number of activities from teaching, to working with students launching businesses to keynoting an entrepreneurship event at the school in November.)
