Wellesley locksmith L&M Lock Service/Boston Decorative Hardware, which has been serving customers in the Wellesley area apparently since the 1970s, has suddenly closed up shop, at least for retail business.
We were notified by a reader who was looking to get a special key made there and is trying to figure out what’s up.
A sign on the door says the business is no longer open for retail business and gives a phone number to call to reach the owner. But the voice mail box has been full for at least a couple of days.
We only went to the business once and had a good experience.
UPDATE (10.4.2011): One reader wrote to say she has Medeco keys from L&M, reportedly the only locksmith around that can make new ones. Medeco confirmed to the reader that L&M reported to them that they were out of business and that any customers with a Medeco lock system should call Medeco at 800-839-3157. They will take the customers’ name and a rep from Medeco will contact the customers with the name and address of the new local locksmith that will hold the Medeco contract.
