The Wellesley Cotillion, a tradition in town since the 1940s, will take place this year at the Back Bay Events Center in Copley Square in Boston on Dec. 3. Invitations to this formal dance party will be sent in early November to all junior and senior high school students who live in Wellesley or attend Wellesley High (students are allowed to invite guests who don’t live in Wellesley or attend Wellesley High).
According to the Cotillion website: “The Cotillion continues to be a forum for the attendees to practice proper etiquette at a black tie event as they become young adults. They are asked to formally reply to the Cotillion invitation, and go through the traditional receiving line, greeting the parent chaperones and introducing their dates.”
The organizers lay down the law to ensure everyone has a fun and safe time. Parents pony up about $75 per attendee (technically, this is considered a donation — there is no formal admission price) and arrange for transportation.
