On your mark, get set, raise funds: How to run the Boston Marathon via Wellesley

The town of Wellesley is making available 16 Boston Marathon invitational entries to Wellesley residents and town employees who can run 26.2 miles, pay the $300 entry fee and raise $4,000 for either Wellesley METCO or Wellesley A Better Chance.  Whew!

The town, like others along the race route, are given a certain number of invitational entries from the Boston Athletic Association to be used for assorted fund raising efforts. Wellesley will also dole out a few numbers to the Wellesley Police Department and a respite center in Hopkinton with ties to the Wellesley Fire Department.

You can get all the details here. Applications are available beginning Nov. 28 from the Board of Selectmen’s office on the third floor of Town Hall. Applications must be submitted by Dec. 16 to be eligible for a lottery of all applications filled out.
