Reminder to leave food bags Saturday AM for Wellesley Boy/Girl Scouts

November 4, 2011 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

Wellesley residents: Those scouts you’ll see prowling around your front lawns this Saturday morning (Nov. 5) aren’t double-dipping for Halloween treats…. A reminder that they are taking part in the “Scouting for Food” drive.

Please fill the plastic  bags that were dropped off this past weekend and put the bags of food outside your house before 9 AM. A scout will collect them no matter what the weather, and the Wellesley Food Pantry, serving more than 210 Wellesley families (including 170 children), will be the beneficiary of your generosity. The Pantry is particularly looking for canned meats & fish, beef stew, ravioli, canned tomatoes, baked beans, cereal, macaroni and cheese, plain brown or white rice, hearty chicken or beef soup, pasta & pasta sauce, peanut butter & jelly, coffee, and mayonnaise & vegetable oil. No glass, no Halloween candy, no perishables, and no expired food, please.

Scouting organizations participating are: Boy Scout Troops 182 & 185, Boy Scout Packs 135, 140, 185, 186, 192 & 195, and Girl Scout Troops 63068, 63077, 63149, 65132, 73190, 73195, 73198, 73202, 73204, 73219, 73220, 73223, 73226, 73228, 73231, 73505, 73845, 73850, 73852, 74001, 74442, 81344, and 85216. This list represent scouts from every elementary school in town, as well as the middle and high schools.

If you didn’t receive a bag, the Food Pantry will gladly accept donations to their boxes at Roche Brothers on Linden Street or at the new Whole Foods on Washington Street. If you have questions, please check out the Scouting for Food website at http://troop185wellesley.org/ScoutingForFood or call the Food Pantry at 781-235-1188.
