It won’t be long before Rte. 16/135 in Wellesley start getting clogged with runners training for next April’s Boston Marathon, and one runner who is getting out in front is Rachel Hamilton, a co-captain for Wellesley High School’s track team during her senior year of 2003.
The 26-year-old Hamilton has had a tough 2011, undergoing surgery and chemotherapy to rid her body of Hodgkin lymphoma. But the recent Harvard MBA recipient is coming back strong with plans to run the Boston Marathon with the Dana Farber Marathon Challenge team (you can contribute to her $10K fundraising effort here, which supports the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research). Hamilton is no stranger to going long distances, having trekked the 20-mile Walk for Hunger course in a little over 5 hours (the day before she found a lump in her neck, as it turns out).
