Deadline looms for Wellesley Hills Junior Women’s Club grants, scholarships

From the Wellesley Hills Junior Women’s Club:

The WHJWC, an 80-member non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to community service, is now accepting applications for both grants from local organizations as well as college scholarships from Wellesley students.

Through the years WHJWC has generated over $4.7 million in funding to organizations and individuals in the Wellesley area community, making it one of the largest grant-making organizations in the area. In 2011 the club awarded $108,000 in grants to Wellesley and Metrowest organizations and $108,000 in college scholarships to Wellesley students.

For Grants, the club donates to a variety of educational, recreational, elderly, healthcare, youth, civic and community programs.  Particular emphasis is placed on those programs that serve the Wellesley community as a whole and its individual residents. A total of $108,000 was donated in grants during 2011.

College Scholarships are awarded based on need to students who reside in Wellesley or have graduated from Wellesley High School.  Last year, a total of $108,000 was awarded in scholarships to 47 students; scholarships ranged in size from $1,200 to $5,000.

Applications are available online at www.WHJWC.org for Grants.  Grant applications should be sent to the attention of Trish Lucas, Chair, Donations Committee, juniorsdonations@yahoo.com, or mailed to WHJWC Donations, PO Box 81194, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481 no later than February 1, 2012.

To apply for WHJWC Scholarships, complete the Town of Wellesley “Common Scholarship and Financial Aid Application”, which is available through the WHS Guidance Office or at wellesleyscholarshipfoundation.org.
