From Wellesley Performing Arts:
Show times are Thursday, March 8 at 4:30pm, Friday March 9 at 7pm, and Saturday, March 10 at 3pm and 7pm in the Wellesley Middle School auditorium. Performances of “Once on This Island, Jr.” are free, with donations gratefully accepted at the door.
A Romeo and Juliet-type story, Once on this Island, Jr. is set in the French Antilles, where the landowners, or “grand homes” are masters of their fate while the peasants are at the mercy of the elements.
The WMS students are helping raise funds for the BeLikeBrit Foundation, a nonprofit founded in the memory of Britney Gengel, who died in the 2010 earthquake that devastated Haiti. Britney had hoped to move to Haiti and start an orphanage, when she was tragically killed along with hundreds of thousands of Haitians. The BeLikeBrit Foundation is building that orphanage in her memory and the kids in this production are hoping to raise money for this great cause.
