Calling all poetic teens! The Wellesley Free Library and Wellesley High School’s Crockett Library announce their fourth annual Poetry Slam. It’s a great way for students to perform original poetry in front of a live audience or to get a chance to hear some creative works written by peers.
In honor of National Poetry Month, Wellesley Free Library and Wellesley High School join forces to put on a Poetry Slam on Thursday, April 12th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Main Library. It’s open to students aged 13 through 19 who live or attend school in Wellesley. Students should come prepared with two original poems. The event will follow a traditional poetry slam format and gift card prizes will be awarded.
To register for the poetry slam, Wellesley teens can sign up online at www.wellesleyfreelibrary.org by April 9th. Contact librarians Anna Litten at alitten@minlib.net or Deeth Ellis at deeth_ellis@wellesley.k12.ma.
Oh, and the swell’st poem snippet in the headline? From John Donne’s “Death, Be Not Proud.”
