The historically warm winter not only put the kibosh on the town’s planned ice skating rink at Hunnewell Field, but also nixed a fun Ice Melt that had been planned for Morses Pond (shown here in early April).
Longtime Morses Pond neighborhood resident Michelle Jacobs says she and her husband Ed have wanted to do an ice melt on the pond since moving to their home. Ed created a device that consists of a clock with an attached flag that would sit on a chair (or some sort of stand) attached to a weight. The whole shebang would be situated on the frozen pond in January or start of February, and residents would register their best guess for exactly when the clock device would plunge through the ice and the flag would shoot up to verify it. “I have set my sights on 2013,” Michelle says.
Meanwhile, Friends of Morses Pond members are prepping for hydroraking of the beach and some abutting properties as well as a spring clean-up along the shores, plus a picnic.
