Wellesley College, the all-women’s school founded in 1870, gets to keep its single-sex status for a least a bit longer. According to a Boston Business Journal report, the U.S. District Court in Massachusetts has rejected a New York man’s lawsuit and request for $2.5 million in damages for not being allowed to apply to the school. According to his complaint: “the gender-exclusive admission policy is a violation of the plaintiff’s rights under the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution.”
The College actually does allow males in under certain exchange programs and for summer courses, so it’s not quite as exclusive as it might appear.
