The Wellesley Police Department has alerted residents that the pre-Halloween practice of “ghosting” is becoming more prevalent in town during October, and that it isn’t necessarily something to be alarmed about (although the department does recommend contacting it in the case of otherwise suspicious activity).
For the uninitiated, ghosting involves the leaving of treats and notes on your front door or doorstep, a knock or doorbell ring, and a suggestion to pay the ghosting forward to others. The most dangerous part typically results from the ghosters scrambling to not get caught, and sometimes running into harm’s way on busy streets.
Ghosting is not to be confused with the practice of big football coaches going door to door to recruit players, as this Globe article says Wellesley High’s new football coach has done.
