Having noticed a couple of recent Wellesley home sales in the $100K-$200K range, I started worrying that the local real estate market had given up (or figured these must have been typos). But faith has been restored.
A house at 194/200 Pond Rd., in Wellesley has just been listed for nearly $9 million.
Naturally, it’s not just any house. It’s set way back on a scenic road, near both the Boston Marathon route and Wellesley College/Lake Waban. It’s on an 11+ acre lot, boasts 7 bedrooms 6 full and 3 half baths, and 10.2K sq. ft. of living space. And yes, it’s listed as a single-family home.
The listing realtor (disclosure: she advertises on our site) describes it as a “magnificent Georgian Colonial” constructed by R.C. Rigoli, a master builder, in 1990 and decorated by the Bierly-Drake interior design team. While those names are lost on me (though I see Bierly-Drake operates from Newbury Street in Boston), I know it means it’s fancy. It’s also part of the old Hunnewell estate.
If you still think the Pond Road house might be a little snug for you, note that there is at least one house on the Wellesley market for an even higher asking price: This little 7-bedroom shack at 144 Edmunds Rd., in the Cliff Estates section of town is listed at $14.5M.
