Wellesley’s LINX Camps and LX Sports Camps have signed on ex-Boston Celtics player Brian Scalabrine (now heard doing some color commentary for the team) to head up basketball camps being offered on the Dana Hall Campus in July/August. The Dana Hall sports complex features two NCAA regulation-sized basketball courts.
For those of you unacquainted, Scalabrine became a fan favorite in Boston during his recent tenure with the Celts, coming off the bench and often launching 3-pointers. Scalabrine has committed to coaching at least 2 days a week for the six weeks that the camp operates this summer.
Speaking from personal experience, going to a camp led by a famous athlete can be memorable. I learned to shoot free throws from NBA rookie of the year (and briefly a Celtic) Ernie DeGregorio and learned the finer points of the game from Joe Mullaney, who once led Holy Cross to the NCAA basketball championship. Yes, old school.
We don’t call the Celtics the Swelltics for nothing, given the recent residency here of ex-Celt Ray Allen, and current residency here of Celtics boss Danny Ainge and ex-player Keyon Dooling, who recently did a clinic of his own.
