Wellesley resident Joseph Avellone, a doctor by training and currently an executive with a clinical research firm, says he will attempt to win the Democratic gubernatorial nomination for the 2014 election.
The 64-year-old Avellone served on the Board of Selectmen in Wellesley from 1990 to 1996, according to a Townsman story.
Avellone has a rich history of political involvement, having worked on campaigns for Ted Kennedy, Gary Hart and Paul Tsongas. His platform will be based largely on his expertise in business and insights into the economy.
Avellone’s competition could include another expert in the medical field, Donald Berwick, according to a Globe report.
