Wellesley changes up spring youth basketball program

January 25, 2013 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

Wellesley Youth Basketball logoWellesley Spring Hoops is a 3-session basketball experience for girls and boys in Grades 3-8 living or attending school in Wellesley.  Spring Hoops will feature two 90-minute skill sessions on March 16th and 23rd hosted by the Wellesley Youth Basketball Association.

In addition, as part of the Spring Hoops offering, we will be collaborating with LX Sports Camps and their special guest, former Celtic Brian Scalabrine, to co-host an interactive 3-on-3 tournament on March 24th.

The clinics will be based on the traditional basketball ‘camp’ model, which focuses on teaching fundamentals through lots of hands-on drills, instruction and advanced guidance with help from high school coaches and players. This program is designed for children of all skill levels and experience. Because our goal is to provide an interactive and personalized experience for each participant, enrollment will be limited.

Schedule:

March 16th: 90 minute clinic

March 23rd: 90 minute clinic

March 24th: 3-on-3 tournament with LX Sports Camps at their Dana Hall Campus

Cost: $50

Why the change to the Wellesley Spring Hoops program?

In the past, Spring Hoops (formerly Town Ball) was a popular five-week recreational league for 3rd-8th grade children of all skill levels. But over the past few years, parents have told us that some children could not participate because of conflicts with other spring sports. The shorter basketball ‘camp’ model addresses this concern while providing a more personalized experience.
