Wellesley has lowered the amount of money runners need to raise from $4,000 to $2,500 to apply/qualify for an invitational Boston Marathon number from the town. You’d also need to pay a $300 entry fee (postmarked by Feb. 1) to the Boston Athletic Association.
Wellesley, like other communities along the course, is granted a certain number of these invitational numbers to dole out as it chooses. Typically, the numbers are tied to applicants raising money for charities or nonprofits, and in Wellesley’s case that includes the Wellesley Scholarship Foundation, Wellesley Friendly Aid Association, Wellesley Theatre Project and West Suburban Veterans’ District.
If you’re already fit, there’s still time to sneak in enough training…
