Ellen B. Quirk, currently assistant principal at Bowman Elementary School in Lexington, Mass., has been named the new principal at Hunnewell Elementary School effective this July. Quirk has been on the hunt for a principal’s job, previously being in the running for positions in Waban and Belmont.
She replaces Barbara Manfredi, the interim principal who stepped in after Sheryl Boris-Schacter stepped down at the end of the last school year. Coincidentally or not, Manfredi had previously been with the Lexington school system herself.
Quirk, before serving as Bowman’s assistant principal, was a classroom teacher there as well as at the Pike School in Andover and Douglas School in Acton.
In February, Wellesley Public Schools named Ed Kaufman as Hardy’s next principal. The school system has had a ton of principal turnover over the past year or two, and Andrew Keough, the Wellesley High principal, has been seeking superintendent jobs (including in Hopkinton, which he didn’t get).
i would like information on how many wellesley assistant principals, or teachers, or administrative staff have applied for a higher position in wellesley and have been passed over by someone from out of town. seems all new staff is from some other town; except maybe the middle school principal?
