Wellesley Police Chief Terry Cunningham joins others in law enforcement across the country in a new national cable TV ad that calls on Congress to pass legislation requiring background checks for those buying guns. Cunningham, who refers to himself in the ad as “a life member of the NRA,” also says in the ad:”I’ve known good friends who have been killed in the line of duty.”
The ad was released by the group Mayors Against Illegal Guns, which says “about 40 of U.S. gun transfers are conducted by unlicensed private sellers who are not required to conduct a federal check, and who often do business at gun shows and on the Internet.”
