Wellesley Public Schools commissioned a comprehensive demographic study to help it create a strategic plan for the system, and among the big findings according to Superintendent David Lussier is that elementary school enrollments are expected to fall 17% over the next 10 years (alas, a tad too late for those of you with kids in overcrowded classrooms). Wellesley Middle School and High School enrollments are forecast to rise in coming years, though be lower in 10 years than they are today. The forecasts are based on school data as well as IRS, GIS and Census info.
The numbers, presented in a 44-page report from outside consultants and impressively converted into a 54-slide presentation delivered at the School Committee meeting last week, will be useful for planning everything from facilities investments to any possible redistricting.
