From The Clever Hand Gallery:
The Clever Hand Gallery will showcase pottery and jewelry by students from two advanced art classes at Wellesley High School from April 9 – 20. The Clever Hand will be hosting a reception for the students on Wednesday April 10th from 4:00 until 5:00 pm. All are invited.
The showcase is part of a three-year-old collaboration between The Wellesley High School Visual Arts Department and professional artists from The Clever Hand, a cooperative gallery of fine crafts located in downtown Wellesley at 52 Central St. Students in the high school’s Intensive Ceramics Class, taught by Amie Ciluffo Larson have participated for the past two years. This year they will be joined by students from the new Jewelry/Metals Intensive Class, taught by Shayla Vines. Potters and jewelers from the Clever Hand will visit the classrooms to give workshops in advanced techniques and to show students some exciting possibilities in their media. All of the students must have taken prior courses in their fields, and be recommended for one of the two advanced classes.
This is the first year Wellesley High School has had a Jewelry/Metals Intensive Class. Working primarily in copper, brass and sterling silver, the students are proud to be considered the elite metal smiths at WHS according to their teacher. Each student is creating a personal series for the year and these finished pieces will include enamel work, stone settings, fabrication and construction. Some of this work, along with the best and most creative work of the pottery students, will be part of the Clever Hand showcase.
