Ed Markey bested fellow Democrat Stephen Lynch 2,830 votes to 523 votes in Wellesley today in the U.S. Senate primary election for the seat vacated recently by John Kerry. About 82% of Wellesley Democrats who voted choose Markey, who grabbed 57% of votes statewide for the victory (as of around 10pm Tuesday).
U.S. Rep. Markey will face Gabriel Gomez in the June 25 Special Election, as the Republican candidate captured 51% of the vote statewide vs. 36% for Mike Sullivan and 13% for Dan Winslow. In Wellesley, where Gomez visted Tuesday, he had about 63% of the Republican vote.
A little more than a quarter of eligible voters in Wellesley went to the polls Tuesday.
