The volunteer-run Sustainable Wellesley group is urging sports leagues in town to encourage parents and players to make the switch from disposable plastic bottles to reusable ones — and to refill them at new water fountains at many of the town’s playing fields (Ouellet and Philips Park as slated to get drinking fountains next year).
According to Sustainable Wellesley, doing so could help Wellesley help make a dent in the 1.5 million tons of plastic waste per year that bottled water generates in the United States.
And for those that must bring disposable bottles, the town has added recycling bins to all sports fields to encourage people to keep fields tidy.
