Wellesley’s annual Town Meeting has a serious agenda as it kicks off this Monday at 7:30pm, with the 13-page warrant including 40-plus articles on everything from cluster housing development to Wellesley Square zoning issues to marijuana dispensaries (the Advisory committee has also provided some updates on the warrant). It’s possible the meeting, which takes place at the Wellesley High School auditorium, could stretch for days if not weeks.
The content of this year’s meeting should keep most conscientious citizens rapt. For example, Article 9 reads: “To see what sum of money the Town will raise and appropriate, or otherwise provide, for the Town’s Stabilization Funds pursuant to the provisions of section 5B of Chapter 40 of the General Laws, as amended; or take any other action relative thereto.”
But this time around the town might want to spice up the meeting both for those attending and watching remotely. The live Internet streaming and cable coverage by Wellesley Media Corp., is facing brutal competition for local viewers’ eyeballs: It goes up against ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, NBC’s The Voice and CBS’s How I Met Your Mother. So don’t be surprised if the Town Meeting moderator kicks things off with a quirky song-and-dance routine or at the very least tosses out a number of April 1 groaners.
