Last summer we wrote that Google Street View cars invaded Wellesley College to put the campus into its panoramic, 3D mapping system. Now you can see the results, and they’re very cool.
If you’re not familiar with Street View, it’s a Google system that produces spectacular close-ups of places (including Mount Everest base camps and the Grand Canyon) for Google Maps, though has been criticized by privacy advocates for capturing people in assorted compromising positions. And of course many people take the opportunity to purposely mess with the cameras. The latest Google Street View cars boast GPS and more than a dozen lenses that can take 360-degree photos (Google also has Street View pushcarts, snowmobiles and trikes to infiltrate different terrain.)
