A Wellesley resident reports that she found her cat dead on Wednesday, outside in the woods in the Reeds Pond neighborhood, and while a sick fox has been on the prowl in the area, the culprit was more likely a coyote.
The resident reports having seen another creature in the area where she located her cat, and wanted to spread the word so others could be on the lookout.
Indeed, Wellesley Animal Control Officer Sue Webb has reported that a sick red fox has been spotted in the area ranging from Chatham Circle to Reeds Pond near Beechwood Road, though she hasn’t had any other calls of late, perhaps because the rain has kept the fox from roaming around. The fox, which has mange, is said to be looking for food and trying to find comfort. Webb is hoping to capture the sick animal and have it euthanized. She sad the cat would have to have to have been pretty sick itself for the fox to take it down.
