Temperatures hovering around 80 degrees didn’t spook the more than 270 runners who braved the notoriously hilly Schofield 5K road race course on Sunday morning.
Former Wellesley High School track and cross country standout Bijan Mazaheri (now running for Williams College) won the race in a time of 16:10, which converts into a(5:13 per mile pace. Kathy Fleming of Natick was the first woman to cross the finish line in just over 20 minutes. This race attracts lots of kids as well, most of whom put their parents’ athletic abilities to shame. Many of the attendees bounced over to the Schofield Fun Fair after finishing the race, which raised money for the Schofield PTO and the Richards Family Fund (Boston Marathon bombing victims).
