The town’s latest Dunkin’ Donuts and first Baskin-Robbins have combined forces and opened up in Wellesley Square last week in a shared store front, adding another chain to the downtown area, but saving it from a bank or real estate agency. I stopped in to satisfy my strawberry ice cream craving and was greeted with a space that was sleek and modern, yet every inch Dunkin’ Donuts, with its signature orange and pink decor. Order up your usual, but be warned, expect to feel upbeat, energized, and ready to continue on your way with a spring in your step. This is not the place to hunker down and complete another chapter in your great American novel or chase down one more elusive line of haiku. Dunkin’ Donuts Radio, the chain’s own radio station, will see to it that you’ll soon feel the need to stride along with purpose. Here’s how it works: first they play an upbeat song like the country favorite “Boys Round Here” or the 1980s hit “Goody Two Shoes,” by Adam Ant (I know, right?). In between songs, a perky DJ duo dishes about the great Coolatta, or coffee, or cruller they just enjoyed using phrases like “I know, right?”
As far as wearing a beret and brooding over your latest artistic endeavor, you’re best off at Starbucks for that sort of thing.
