Reader RB wrote in to find out what’s become of the weather vane that’s usually atop the Wellesley Village Church spire in Wellesley Square (see below). He and his wife enjoy watching the hawks that perch on the vane, though noticed it looked a bit wobbly recently, and then disappeared.
According to the church, the vane was damaged during a recent storm, is being repaired and will be returned to its sky-high spot when it’s fixed.
That’s good news for the hawks. Our sources say at least one of the birds has been known to be a guardian angel of sorts for the raised beds outside the church, which supply food to the Wellesley Food Pantry.
Village Church has a track record of being kind to animals, even having a day of animal blessings.
