Babson College undergrad Daquan Oliver is in the running for Entrepreneur Magazine‘s Entrepreneur of the Year contest for college students for a non-profit he started by teaching middle school-age kids living in Wellesley’s Barton Road public housing how to start a business and develop leadership skills.
Oliver says he saw the opportunity to revamp an after-school homework program he volunteered at into what has become an outfit called Recesspreneurs. You can get a feel for what the Barton Road youth have learned in this video:
Oliver isn’t the only Babson student or alum with a chance to win an Entrepreneur Magazine title. Graduate Alexander Debelov has been nominated in the Emerging entrepreneur category for his company Virool, which focuses on making videos go viral and on helping those with positive messages to spread.
Several Babson alum are also behind Dream Water, a company whose products are designed to improve sleep. Dream Water is a finalist in the Established entrepreneur category.
Voting for the magazine’s awards is open through Sept. 17.
