Registration opens for Wellesley Hoops (formerly CYO basketball)

Wellesley Youth Basketball logoFrom Wellesley Youth Basketball:

The 2013-14 Wellesley Hoops basketball season is right around the corner, and we are very excited about the upcoming year.  Registration is now open and will extend through Friday, October 18th.  Please visit our website at www.wellesleycyohoops.org and click on the “Register Online” tab to register.  We strongly encourage you to register early as it dramatically improves our ability to further communicate with you and conduct the player evaluation and team selection process.  Everyone who registers by October 18th will be assured a spot on a team.  Registration after October 18th will be subject to a $25 processing late fee.

The player evaluations will take place on Sunday, October 20st and Sunday October 27th.  The full evaluation schedule is posted on the homepage of the website.  (Remember, there are no cuts, but we strongly encourage each participant to attend the relevant session(s), as the evaluations help us to better balance the teams within each division.)

The Wellesley Hoops program focuses on enhancing youth participation in basketball, developing skills and having fun.  We do this by offering a moderately competitive league consisting of balanced teams with an emphasis on player development and having fun.  We welcome participants of all backgrounds and skill levels who live or attend school in Wellesley and are interested in playing basketball.  While most league participants are from Wellesley, we expect to once again play against a handful of teams from Framingham and Wayland.  Note, while our season runs parallel to the more competitive MetroWest program, most MetroWest participants also play in the Wellesley Hoops program.  We have coordinated with MetroWest the past few years to eliminate conflicts in order to ease some of the scheduling burdens on families.

Though the all-volunteer WYBA will greatly help us tackle gym scheduling, uniform and equipment purchasing and web administration (including notices), our program can still use parents (or grandparents) and teenaged children in a number of ways, coaching for sure, but also to help run our player evaluations, run our banquets and other special events, and help to manage teams or divisions as the season progresses.  Parents and HS students interested in coaching should complete the coaching registration forms online.

The costs of our programs have increased, particularly our facilities rental costs, which are increasing by more than 20% this year. Unfortunately, as a non-profit organization we do not have the ability to absorb the full impact of such cost increases, and as a result this year we will be increasing our Wellesley Hoops program fee to $210.
