A Wellesley family whose home was intruded upon mid-afternoon earlier this week by a stranger posing as a furniture mover is spreading the word regarding the incident, which they said police suspect was a burglary attempt.
A man appearing to be in his 40s walked through an open garage into into the kitchen, whereupon he ran into a woman who immediately began questioning him. He said he was there to pick up deck furniture, though was told the house had no deck. He then feigned to make a cellphone call, the woman then reached for her cellphone too, whereupon the man said “I’m harmless.” The next thing you know, the guy is pulling away in a black SUV in the Yarmouth/Royalston/Falmouth road area.
Police came over later to check out the scene, assessed it probably was a robbery attempt, and recommended keeping doors locked even when home.
