Billy Squier, the Wellesley High grad who went on to become a rock star in the 1980s with songs like “The Stroke,” has now become known as the most sampled artist in hip-hop history. Groups and singers from Run D.M.C. to more recently, Eminem on his song “Berzerk” have borrowed beats from Billy, who has embraced it. The New York Post documents this rather behind-the-scenes phenomenon, and catches up with Squier’s latest doings.
Some might recall that Squier visited Wellesley two years ago for a performance to bid goodbye to the old Wellesley High building.
(Thanks to reader RB, a WHS classmate of Squier’s for pointing out the Post article)
