The Wellesley Hills Junior Women’s Club (WHJWC) is pleased to announce that it is currently accepting proposals for 2014 grants. The WHJWC funds grants for non-profit programs that make a significant impact on the Wellesley community as a whole and its individual residents. Non-profit organizations/program initiatives that are particularly encouraged to make application are those with a focus on impacting the educational, elderly, healthcare, recreational, civic/community aspects of the Wellesley community. Application information is available on whjwc.org and must be submitted by February 1, 2014, with award notifications made in mid-May 2014. WHJWC awarded $70,000 in grants to a total of 42 organizations during its 2013 fiscal year. Grant recipients represented a wide range of organizations that support the Wellesley community, with 36% awarded to civic/community-oriented organizations and programs, 29% to education-related organizations and programs, 17% to those with a focus on elderly, and 18% related to healthcare.
The largest single grant was awarded to the PTO’s for the Wellesley Public Elementary Schools to fund the “Moscow Nights” program. This is a curriculum enrichment program for 3rd graders which supports the Russian cultural curriculum unit.
The Wellesley Hills Junior Women’s Club was established in 1944 as an all-volunteer service organization which serves the Wellesley community through direct service and fundraising. Additional information about WHJWC is available at whjwc.org.
