Martin Copenhaver, pastor at Wellesley Village Church since 1994, has notified parishioners that he has accepted a job as president of Andover Newton Theological School in Newton Centre.
Copenhaver is known for his strong sermons, all of which are based on true stories.
Copenhaver had given parishioners of the Congregational Church a heads up a few weeks back that he was under consideration for the job at the school, where a number of Village Church staff have been educated. Andover Newton is the oldest theological school in the country.
“There is absolutely nothing about my ministry at Village Church that I want to leave. I cannot imagine a more wonderful congregation. I have always felt tremendously supported by you throughout my ministry. Your faithfulness is an inspiration to me…” he wrote in part.
Copenhaver will remain with Village Church until March 23, 2014.
