Four members of the Wellesley Fire Department (Wellesley Fire Capt. Jim Dennehy, Lt. Paul Delaney, Dave Papazian, and Joan Cullinan) got their day on the Ellen DeGeneres talk show Tuesday, earning the recognition for their recent heroics in saving Crosby the golden retriever after she fell into the icy Charles River last month. It was revealed that the dog had chased a squirrel onto the ice.
Dog owner Amy Kapinos attended the taping in the audience and again thanked the fire department members for their efforts.
Not that the fire department members were angling for this, but Ellen rewarded them with Caribbean cruises and some special vests (including one for Crosby) with Ellen’s mug on them in case they wind up in the water again. (UPDATE: No cruises after all for fire department members…)
The question is whether state conflict of interest laws that apply to gift giving will put the kibosh on the cruises.
