There’s a new rig on the Wellesley Police force and we’re guessing department members are fighting for the right to tool around in this former U.S. Army M996 utility vehicle, given to the town for free by the Department of Defense. Though we’re guessing its probably not the warmest ride in the thick of winter.
We’ve seen references to the “armored Hummer,” though Wellesley Police say the rugged vehicle — to be used for emergency situations that can be hard for typical police cars to navigate — actually has no special armor. But it is decked out with special paint to cover up the camouflage colors, recycled lights and more.
