We’ve used up our allotment of “bar” jokes with past posts on the Pure Barre fitness studio and the By Styled blow dry bar coming to Wellesley over the past couple of years. So we’ll just get straight to the point here: a new fitness studio called The Bar Method — that like Linden’s Pure Barre in part uses ballet bars to whip you into shape — is coming to Wellesley Square.
The business, which during 2013 upped its number of “beautiful, life-renewing” locations to 75 across the U.S. and Canada, is putting down stakes at 66 Central St., above Starbucks and Ardan Spa.
According to the business: “The Bar Method exercise targets the muscles that play the greatest role in body change, then keeps these muscles working intensely and safely long enough for them to change. It then intensely stretches each muscle worked to make it look & feel longer & more graceful.”
The Bar Method says it has a space in the works for free community classes while construction is underway on its studio. More details promised soon on that by the business.
Other Bar Method locations in Massachusetts can be found in the Back Bay and Hingham.
UPDATE: Bar Method’s Jen Winger and Sarah Bauman provided this additional info about the business:
What is the Bar Method? The Bar Method is a fun, one-hour, full-body workout that burns fat and carves muscle. Our classes are fast-paced and set to motivating, popular music; they combine the principles of isometrics, interval training and dance conditioning to first fatigue your muscles and then lengthen them out with deep stretches while they are still warm and pliable.
Why Wellesley? While Wellesley is not lacking in group exercise classes, we saw an opportunity to bring something completely unique to the town’s health-conscious residents. Unlike any other barre-based fitness studio, The Bar Method works with physical therapists to ensure that our exercises are safe and effective. We can modify any position to accommodate injured or pregnant clients. Instructors train for four to six months before they become certified, which involves passing an extensive anatomy exam and proving they know our 500+ page manual from front to back.
Studio location/details Our studio will be located on the second floor of 66 Central Street, Suite 16. Our spa-like 3,000 square foot space will include two 29-person studio rooms so that we can offer multiple classes at the most sought-after times (no worries about not being able to get into the classes that fit your schedule!), a spacious lobby and locker room, as well as a curated retail experience with high-end active wear.
