Don’t be looking to buy clothes at this Gap night at Wellesley Town Hall on Tuesday at 7pm. In fact, the topic of the School Committee meeting will be about what gets cut from the $64 million school budget proposal if a Prop 2.5 tax override isn’t approved by Town Meeting and voters this spring.
Superintendent David Lussier explains that, “Our approach to creating this Gap List is to first eliminate the new proposals in our FY15 request. We would then strive to maintain level service and protect programs and positions closest to the classroom. Our principals have been working at each of our schools to develop these lists and to articulate the impact that these cuts would have on our students and our education program. We plan to finalize these contingencies on Monday at Academic Council and then present them to the School Committee on Tuesday night, February 4th.”
Local school PTOs and the Committee 21 organization are encouraging Wellesley Public School parents to show up at the meetings and voice their support for the budget, which among other things, will help fund full-day kindergarten and new educational technologies.
