Wellesley voters strongly supported a measure at the polls today to allow retails sales of wine and beer, with the Yesses outnumbering Nos by a count of 2,248 to 336, with 335 blanks (according to preliminary results released on Tuesday night).
Town Meeting members in December also heavily supported the change, which should give the liquor stores bordering Wellesley on three sides some competition — not that full-on liquor stores are expected in town anytime soon.
Today’s vote could pave the way for up to six licenses to be granted by the Board of Selectmen to grocery stores and speciality shops, with Fells Market leading the charge for this privilege of stocking its shelves with booze this year.
