More than 400 runners showed up to take part in the annual Schofield 5K road race — so many that race organizers ran out of numbers. Another 175 kids scrambled through a fun run course.
Bijan Mazaheri, the former Wellesley High School track and cross country star who now studies and runs at Williams College, returned to town to repeat as the Schofield 5K champ on Sunday under a sunny sky.
The 19-year-old broke the 16-minute mark by a second, followed by two current Wellesley High runners. The first female to finish was Rachel Coogan of Watertown in a time of 19:13. The performances were impressive considering the heat and the hilliness of the course, which starts and ends at Schofield Elementary School on Cedar Street.
