Wellesley Middle School singers to perform Music from the Movies

Wellesley Middle School choruses
WMS choral groups performing at the State House, May 2014

Join the Wellesley Middle School Choruses for a celebration of movie music on Tuesday, June 3, at 7pm at the WMS auditorium. The program, which is free and open to the public, will feature the WMS Song Sisters, Brooks Brothers, Clefhangers a cappella, and acoustic showcases by individual students.

The concert theme explores choral music used in movies that is specifically composed to increase an emotional response to the action on screen. Students were involved in arranging two of the pieces and the audience will enjoy songs from many cultures, genres, and time periods filled with wonderful soloists.

Highlights will include Adele’s Academy Award-winning James Bond theme “Skyfall,” the classic Chordette’s tune “Mr. Sandman (featured in dozens of soundtracks),” “Misty Mountain Cold” from The Hobbit, and “I am a Man of Constant Sorrow” from the now-classic George Clooney film O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Student showcases and a cappella renditions will appeal to young and old, featuring pop music from Bastille, Coldplay, Christina Perri, The Beatles, and Billy Joel.

The finale will explode with the 8th grade combined choir paying tribute to Lord of the Rings and J.S. Bach.
