…was probably just the water being drained from the Pierce Hill reservoir in the wake of Wellesley’s E. coli finding in its water supply last month.
Director of Public Works Mike Pakstis issued a note to the town on Thursday updating residents and businesses of the latest on the water situation that led to an order last month to boil water before using it. Pakstis says draining the reservoir will allow it to be thoroughly cleaned and inspected. An independent water systems engineer has been hired to review the work and make recommendations for improvements to the system.
The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority is also monitoring the work. The reservoir won’t be brought back to life until the state Department of Environmental Protection gives its blessing, and that’s expected to be within a couple of weeks, Pakstis states.
Some residents have been asked not to use their sprinklers while the town is short on water, according to a Townsman report. Wellesley has been buying water from Weston to supplement its supply, the report says.
