The town of Wellesley will begin accepting applications for awarding invitational entries to the 2015 Boston Marathon on Oct. 6. The Boston Athletic Association doles out invitational entries to communities along the race route.
The catch for runners is that you not only need to consider yourself fit enough to run the 26.2 miles, but you also have to raise $4,000, preferably for a charity that benefits Wellesley residents.
The town is likely to get in the neighborhood of 20-25 numbers, and usually gives about 5 to police/fire employees. Another 5 this year are being set aside for runners raising funds for the War Memorial Scholarship to be used by Wellesley High grades for college tuition.
Applications must be completed and returned by noon on Friday, October 25. The Board of Selectmen will review the applications and select the individuals awarded invitations. Charities can also apply to be considered as approved organizations for fundraising. All applicants will be notified whether they have been accepted on or before November 7.
