As you’ve seen in Wellesley Hills, the town ripped up the crosswalk and sidewalk bricks this year, citing safety and other issues caused by many disintegrating and loose bricks.
Some of those bricks got a stay of execution when they were used to fill the traffic island in the middle of Washington Street, Wellesley Avenue and Brook Street.
And now we hear from the recent Planning Board meeting that other crosswalk/sidewalk bricks in town could be spared. The board feels the bricks “enhanced the streetscape” and wants to be an advocate for maintaining “Wellesley as Wellesley.” So it is trying to get together with the Board of Selectmen and perhaps the Design Review Board to consider what happens to the bricks from here.
