The Wellesley Jr., Raiders‘ bid to win a second straight national title (last year as fifth graders, this year as six graders) came to a halt Friday in Florida at the hands of a big, strong and talented team from Marlboro, Md. The banged-up Wellesley team kept it close at the half, but fell 33-6.
The boys advanced to the championship game with a solid win vs. a New York team on Wednesday, after winning the regionals handily. Overall, this group of kids had won more than 50 straight games over several seasons before falling short on the scoreboard Friday.
The team will be welcomed back to town at Wellesley High School around 5pm on Saturday.
