A Swellesley reader and former Town Meeting member has posted this sign on her door, looking to rent rooms to help pay for an anticipated tax increase if the town goes ahead with its proposed $35 million purchase of the North 40 property from Wellesley College. The town is looking to pay in part through a Proposition 2.5 debt exclusion, a topic that will be discussed at this week’s Town Meeting.
The house shown is not in the North 40 neighborhood, which has been dotted for months with Save the North 40 signs by those seeking to preserve the open space.

Thank you to someone with some common sense. $35 million can provide a lot of services and much needed school repairs rather than farm plots for a few Wellesley residents. If people want to maintain the “north 40”, they should pay for it and be willing to pay fees to purchase and maintain it. I would rather see the money used for much more practical and necessary things for the town and residents.
