The Wellesley Police Department is investigating a bank robbery that took place on Saturday, Feb 14 at the TD Bank branch at 380 Washington St, Playhouse Square. No one was injured.
TD North has been the bank of choice over the years among discerning bank robbers in Wellesley, although it’s typically the Route 9 branch that takes the hits. This is the first time we know of that the Forest St. branch has been robbed.
In December 2013, the TD Route 9 branch was robbed, and a police dog was injured.
In 2012, that branch was again knocked over, this time on Marathon Day by a man nattily dressed in a white button-down shirt, khaki shorts, and boat shoes, and back in 2010 a robber with no particular fashion sense beyond the gun he accessorized with took a turn at the Route 9 TD.
And who can forget the prolific bank robber who was even given a cute nickname, the U30 Bandit, so called because his series of robberies in the area, including one at the Bank of America on Washington St. at Abbot Rd., took less than 30 seconds. We wonder if they call him the U30 Prisoner in jail — he was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison.
